The NHL Lockout Song was written because it seemed that as December loomed, there was a very good chance that the NHL would cancel it's entire season.
There was in fact, $3 billion in revenues that could have been split between the owners and the players had they started the season on schedule. Apparently both sides don't need that kind of chump change because they have all but thrown it away!
By the way, I am not blaming the NHL owners for this impasse any more than I am blaming the players. They are both to blame. However, this is the third lockout/strike that we have had since Gary Bettman became the President of the league (in 1993) so it's easy to go after him and that's what this funny song does.
The song was based on the Gene Autry Christmas hit 'Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer' because it was close to December when I started to fool around with the words and it looked like the NHL's Christmas gift to the fans would be a cancelled season. If you're not a hockey fan, you won't get much out of this song but if you are, you might.
My philosophy is - "We may as well laugh at all those things we can't control because it does no good to fret about them". I hope you like it.
